Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will sponsor its 29th annual health fair on Saturday, February 6 from 9 am – 1 pm at Coastal Grand Mall. New this year is the $1.6 million daVinci surgical robot which will be in Center Court for the public to operate and observe.
Over 40 medical and healthcare exhibitors will be available for information and screenings and Grand Strand Regional will offer a Panel 30 blood profile for $20. The profile measures complete cholesterol (HDL, LDL, triglycerides) total iron, sodium, glucose, calcium, magnesium, total protein, potassium and more. Fasting for 12 hours before the screening is required for accurate results. Individuals with diabetes should bring something to eat or drink for immediately following the blood draw.
The blood draw will be located at the south end of the mall by Dillard’s.
Free screenings at the health fair include blood pressure, foot, diabetes questionnaire, otoscopy, stress, pulse oximetry, depression and vision.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to obtain general health information from area healthcare providers and hospital departments,” said Joan Carroza, hospital marketing director. “We have people who attend every year so they can compare their blood profile results from year to year, especially the cholesterol breakdown.”
“The addition of the daVinci surgical robot is exciting. The public will be able to sit at the console and operate the robotic arms. The robotic is used in urologic, gynecologic and general surgery at Grand Strand Regional,” Carroza added.
Many local physician practices are expected to participate in the health fair including specialists in internal medicine, oncology, ear/nose/throat, podiatry, surgery, plastic surgery, cardiology and pulmonary medicine.
Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will have representatives discussing nutrition, diabetes, general hospital information, volunteering, surgical services, mammography, Mended Hearts, pharmacy and senior health.
All screenings are free except for the Panel 30 blood profile. For more information, contact Grand Strand Regional at 692-1054 or 839-9933.
Individuals wishing to complete the blood profile registration form early may pick up forms at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, South Strand Ambulatory Care Center, HealthFinders @ Coastal Grand Mall, and the Senior Health Centers. Pre-registration is not required.
