Four Prostate Screenings and a Prostate Seminar in September
August 31, 2011
Myrtle Beach, SC - Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will sponsor a free seminar and four prostate screenings during September – Prostate Cancer Awareness month. The screenings include a PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam for $20. Exams will be performed by Grand Strand Urology physicians.
William Bogache, MD, a board certified urologist, will discuss the prevalence of prostate cancer and new treatments on Tuesday, September 13 at 6 pm at HealthFinders at Coastal Grand Mall. Dr. Bogache will speak on who should be screened as well as the use of robotic assisted surgery for prostate cancer – a procedure that results in shorter recovery times, reduced blood loss and fewer side effects.
Prostate screenings are recommended for men ages 40 - 70. Men with a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk, as are African-American men who are at twice the risk of other men and should be screened starting at age 35.
Screenings will be held on Monday, September 19 at South Strand Senior Health Center, Myrtle Beach; Tuesday, September 20 at Grand Strand Urology in Myrtle Beach; Wednesday, September 21 at Carolina Forest Senior Health Center and Thursday, September 22 at the North Strand Senior Health Center, Little River.
All appointments are from 6 – 7:30 pm and pre-registration is required by calling 692-4444. Registration forms are available at all the locations and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center
