Health Fair Scheduled for Saturday, February 5

January 15, 2011

Myrtle Beach, SC - Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will sponsor its 30th annual health fair on Saturday, February 5 from 9 am – 1 pm at Coastal Grand Mall.  The health fair is held the first Saturday in February each year to attract residents and snowbirds.

Over 50 medical and healthcare exhibitors will be available for information and screenings.  Grand Strand Regional will offer a Panel 30 blood profile for $25.  The profile includes thyroid, complete cholesterol, total iron, sodium, glucose, calcium, magnesium, total protein, protein, potassium and more.  Fasting for 12 hours before the screening is required for accurate results; diabetics should bring a snack to eat immediately after the blood draw. The profile is for individuals age 18 and over.

Free screenings at the health fair include: vision, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, stress, sleep disorders, foot, asthma and more.
“This is a great opportunity to get a baseline or check on your health for a low cost.  This year’s Panel 30 includes a thyroid screening,” said Joan Carroza, marketing director.  “Many people may delay visiting a physician this year to save a few dollars so we hope people will take advantage of the $25 Panel 30, free screenings and the opportunity to talk with healthcare providers.  An individual’s health is a priority and results of the free screenings and Panel 30 profile may help people decide whether to seek additional care.”

“The health fair also is an opportunity for residents and visitors to meet some of the newer physicians who have joined the medical staff or learn more about existing physician practices,” Carroza added.

Physician practices associated with Grand Strand Regional are expected to participate in the health fair.  Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will have representatives discussing living wills, nutrition, diabetes, general hospital information, senior health, volunteers and surgery.

For individuals wishing to fill out blood profile registration forms early, forms are available January 31 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, South Strand Medical Center, HealthFinders @ Coastal Grand Mall, Carolina Forest Senior Health Center and the North Strand Senior Health Center in Little River.

Pre-registration is not required nor are appointments available for the blood draw. Call 839-9933 for more information.
