creenings and two community health seminars are scheduled for December at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center’s new classroom location at YMCA, 62nd Avenue extension, Myrtle Beach. Pre-registration is requested for seminars at 692-4444.
Total cholesterol, lipid panel and blood pressure screenings are available on Mondays, December 7, 21 and 28 from noon – 1 pm and Thursdays, December 3, 10, and 31 from 8:30 – 9: 30 am. Finger stick cholesterol screenings, $7; lipid profiles require a 12 hour fast, $20; A1C testing, $20. No charge for blood pressure and weight screenings.
Neuropsychiatrist William VanHorn, MD, medical director at Lighthouse Care Center, will discuss the challenges of an aging brain on Tuesday, December 8 at 6 pm. Topics include a “chemical-electrical brain”, what a person can do to maintain a healthy brain and how to know when your brain is sick.
Staying Healthy after Age 55 and Dancing for Your Health is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, 3 - 4:30 pm. Geriatric specialist Edin Karcic, MD, will discuss health concerns we face as we age and how to stay healthy. Fred Astaire Dance Studio instructor Juan Gonzalez will teach fun dance moves as a form of exercise!
