Myrtle Beach, SC - The trauma program at Grand Strand Medical Center has received designation as a Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Bureau of EMS and Trauma with recommendations from the Trauma Advisory Council from the State of South Carolina DHEC.

"This means we provide the highest level of comprehensive care for critically injured patients with 24/7 in-house board-certified general surgeons with additional specialty in critical care," states Dr. Antonio Pepe, Trauma Medical Director for Grand Strand Health. In addition, Grand Strand Medical Center has been providing leadership in education prevention to the public through community events, continued education for trauma team members, research projects and residency programs.

"I am so lucky to have been sent to this hospital. I would not be here today if it wasn't for them and the advanced services they provide. It is the best hospital from the surgeons to nurses to all involved in my care," states Tyler Moore, a severely injured trauma patient who reached the trauma center minutes within the golden hour.

Grand Strand Health has been expanding its children's care services at Grand Strand Medical Center with a pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric inpatient unit, a pediatric emergency room and pediatric education for providers which meets several of the Level II Pediatric Trauma Center requirements.

"We are all very proud of the robust trauma program that we have developed which has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2010. This designation for Level I Adult and Level II Pediatrics is another example of our commitment to provide the highest quality care to serve the needs of communities that we serve," said Mark Sims, Chief Executive Officer for Grand Strand Health. "Thank you to our first responders, South Carolina DHEC Trauma System, our trauma team and all other team members who work alongside them for making this possible."
