Grand Strand Health Prepares for Hurricane Matthew

Myrtle Beach, SC As the Grand Strand area braces for the impact of Hurricane Matthew, Grand Strand Health administrators, physicians and clinicians are working through their Emergency Preparedness Plan to ensure patient and staff safety. 

To help prepare for the storm Grand Strand Health CEO Mark Sims announced, “With our mission in mind, our main priority is the care and safety of our patients.  We are prepared to accept medical emergencies if they occur. We are here for our community, our patients and each other.” Grand Strand Medical Center and South Strand Medical Center’s emergency departments will remain open. “We are in constant contact with our state and local emergency management teams,” states Sims. “We have activated our Emergency Preparedness Plan and have our staff and physicians commitment to continue providing the highest quality of care during this weather event.”

Also,

  • If someone has a medical emergency during the storm call 9-1-1.
  • Grand Strand Medical Center’s Level II Trauma team is available.
  • All non-emergent procedures and surgeries have been cancelled.
  • Only emergent procedures will be performed until the “all clear” is declared.
  • All of Grand Strand Health’s physician practices and outpatient facilities are closed.
