Events are free & held at HealthFinders unless indicated.  Registration is requested, please call 692-4444. HealthFinders will be closed on Saturday, August 11 and will close at 7 pm on other Saturdays.

FREE “Back 2 School” Foot Screenings for Children

Wednesday, August 15, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Join Joseph Menn, DPM, and Jordanna Baker, DPM, of Coastal Podiatry Associates, for FREE foot screenings.  Children from birth to 18 are welcome to attend. Each child registered will receive a special treat from the doctors! Registration required, please call 692-4444 for appointments for your child.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Seminar (Screenings in Sept/Oct)

Wednesday, August 29, 2 - 3 p.m.

PAD is known as poor circulation and mainly affects adults over age 50. Cardiac educator Debbie Kirkman, RN, will discuss the risk factors, screening and prevention for PAD.  Attendees receive first choice for free PAD screenings in September and October. Registration requested: 692-4444.

La Leche Breastfeeding Group
Wednesday, August 8, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Helping mothers breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement and information. This is a women’s only group.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Class
Thursday, August 9, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
A seven-hour national babysitting course for 11 – 13 year olds.  Fee: $35 includes book bag and materials.  Registration required: 692-4444.

Know the Signs, Symptoms & Treatments of Hypothyroidism
Monday, August 13, 5 - 6 p.m.
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone, which mainly works for the body’s metabolism.  Join Robert Kimpton, MD, with South Strand Primary Care, as he discusses the signs, symptoms and  treatments for hypothyroidism.

Wednesday and Thursday, August 15 & 16, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Pre-Diabetes Class
Tuesday, August 28, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Have abnormal blood sugars but have not been diagnosed with diabetes?  Denise Wilson, RN, BSN, CDE, will review diagnostic criteria, risk factors and lifestyle changes that can prevent/slow the development of Type 2 diabetes. Cholesterol, blood pressure, A1c and weight screenings on a walk-in basis.  Finger stick cholesterol screening, $7; lipid profile, which requires a 12 hour fast, $20; A1c testing, $20. No charge for blood pressure and weight.
