Myrtle Beach, SC - Grand Strand Regional Medical Center will sponsor four prostate screenings during September – Prostate Cancer Awareness month. The screenings include a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test and a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) for $20. Exams will be performed by Atlantic Urology Clinics physicians.
Prostate screenings are recommended for men ages 40 - 70. Men with a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk, as are African-American men who are at twice the risk of other men and should be screened starting at age 35.
Screenings will be held on Monday, September 16 at Carolina Health Specialists in Socastee; Tuesday, September 17 at Atlantic Urology Clinics in Myrtle Beach; Wednesday, September 18 at Grand Strand Senior Health - Carolina Forest in Myrtle Beach and Thursday, September 19 at Grand Strand Senior Health – North Strand in Little River.
All appointments are from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and pre-registration is required by calling 843-692-4444.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in American men. It is more common than any other major cancer and nearly 30,000 men will die from it annually.
