Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN)

We invite new and soon-to-be graduates to apply for our StaRN Paid New Graduate Residency programs! Our courses allow new graduates to obtain acute care nursing experience in Med-Surg, ICU, ED or various other nursing specialties as they transition into staff RN roles within Grand Strand Medical Center.

Program Requirements

This program is designed for self-motivated nurses with strong communication skills who are looking to obtain an educational foundation in critical care nursing. You must meet the following criteria in order to participate:

  • Graduated from an accredited nursing school (within the past six months)
  • Completed the NCLEX test
  • Received RN license

Program requires a minimum two year commitment to the facility. Failure to meet this may result in repayment of facility investment.

Med-Surg/ ICU Program Benefits

Med-Surg/ ICU Program Schedule

Part 1

Classroom Training | First 7 Weeks

  • Instructor-led classroom training
  • State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive debriefs
  • Self-directed learning

Part 2

Clinical Preceptorship | Last 7 Weeks

  • Conducted at the hospital
  • Regular development meetings between the student, the preceptor and your director

ED Program Benefits

  • Our ED track is 17 weeks of paid, hands-on, clinical, didactic training
  • Classroom instruction and preceptorship from exceptional nurses
  • Customized coaching/onboarding report for clinical preceptorship
  • Mentorship and development meetings
  • Over 60 hours of high-fidelity simulation
  • Access to the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Emergency Nursing Orientation core curriculum
  • Access to Lippincott Nursing procedures and skills
  • BLS, ACLS, ENPC, PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke Scale and CPI certification
  • Meditech training and validation

ED Program Schedule

Part 1

Classroom Training | First 10 Weeks

  • Instructor-led classroom training
  • State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive debriefs
  • Self-directed learning

Part 2

Clinical Preceptorship | Last 7 Weeks

  • Conducted at the hospital
  • Regular development meetings between the student, the preceptor and your director
