Electrophysiology Lab
Electrophysiology is the science of diagnosing and treating abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias, and is the fastest growing area of cardiovascular medicine. If you have an arrhythmia your heart rate is abnormally fast, slow or even irregular.
Electrophysiology studies use cardiac catheterization techniques to study patients with irregular heartbeats. These studies are accurate and safe ways of mapping the heart’s electrical system and identifying the pathways that are not functioning properly.
State-of-the-art lab
Grand Strand Regional has a state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab with the most sophisticated 3-D mapping system to make a computerized map of the heart’s chambers. It is one of the only biplane (two-level) fluoroscopy units in the region. This advanced diagnostic equipment can help reduce the risk of complications and shorten procedure times by as much as 30 percent.
A full time electrophysiologist diagnoses and treats abnormal heart rhythms including placement of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
