Internal Medicine Residency Program

Welcome from Our Program Director

Thank you for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency!

Our program is based at Grand Strand Medical Center which is a 301 bed acute care hospital located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The hospital is home to the busiest trauma center in the state of South Carolina as well as award winning programs in cardiovascular, orthopedic and stroke care. Opportunities exist for broad exposure to inpatient and outpatient internal medicine, subspecialties and other disciplines. The result is immersion in a broad range of pathology that will prepare you well for a career in hospital medicine, ambulatory medicine or fellowship training.

Our faculty is approachable, enthusiastic and excels at molding you into physicians who will provide high quality, efficient, safe, evidence-based patient care.

Our residents and faculty are actively involved in quality improvement projects and clinical research. Opportunities exist to join existing projects or create new projects with the assistance of our faculty and research team. Our residents and faculty have presented multiple posters and oral presentations at local and national meetings in our program's first year of existence, reflective of our strong emphasis on providing venues for scholarly pursuits.

We have an affiliation with both the University of South Carolina and The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), which will provide you access to library resources, research support and the opportunity to work with medical students to sharpen your teaching skills.

We are home to a state of the art simulation center and have developed a simulation curriculum that creates a safe, interactive environment to enhance your patient care skills.

In closing, our program is a dynamic community-based program supported by a dedicated faculty of superb teachers. Our GME program as a whole is expanding with plans for Emergency Medicine residency, Family Medicine residency, and the possibility of IM subspecialty fellowships in the near future. We hope you will consider us for training and look forward to the prospect of you joining us at the beach.

Sincerely,
Victor E. Collier MD, FACP
