Internal Medicine Residency Program
The faculty and staff at Grand Strand Medical Center are excited about kicking off a new Internal Medicine Residency (IM) program in South Carolina. Our first class of 10 interns will start in the summer of 2015. We are proud to join the two existing University of South Carolina Programs and Medical University of South Carolina as the fourth IM residency program in the state.
Our residency program is a three-year training program that will consist of 30 house officers. We accept both MD and DO candidates and are both an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) categorical residency program. Our ACGME site visit went well and we expect our certification in September 2014.
Our enthusiasm is only outweighed by our recent affiliation with the University of South Carolina and being a future primary rotation site for University of South Carolina, Columbia students.
Our program consists of personalized education in a warm southern hospitality environment. All our students and residents will get a strong IM core curriculum which blends ambulatory and inpatient teaching.
Our program values resident input and welcomes the residents to help shape the curriculum. Our institution’s heart surgery program consistently ranks top in the state. We also have the only Level II trauma program in South Carolina certified by the American College of Surgeons and DHEC. The strength of the program is our people.
We welcome you to inquire about our program which is designed to create a well-rounded, academically balanced internist. Stop in and meet our staff; many of which hail from other areas of the United States, which mirrors the diverse patient population of the Myrtle Beach area. Our area provides so many activities, which blend well with our program.
Our program director, Dr Robert Goldsteen comes from 18 years of educational experience as a full Professor of Medicine at University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the US Army Aeromedical Center.
Thank you for your interest in our program.
