Hemoglobin A1C Screening Available at HealthFinders
January 22, 2010
rand Strand Regional Medical Center will offer an A1C screening on a walk-in basis starting in February at HealthFinders at Coastal Grand Mall. There is a $20 charge for the finger stick screening.
A1C measures the percent concentration of hemoglobin A1C in blood and is recommended for monitoring the long term care of a person with diabetes. An A1C (also known as glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c) test gives a picture of the average blood glucose control for the past two to three months. The results provide a good idea of how well a diabetes treatment plan is working.
The American Diabetes Association recommends a minimum of two A1C screenings annually although an individual’s physician may suggest more frequent checks.
Results of the finger stick screening are available in minutes and individuals will receive a copy of the results.
HealthFinders offers several free and low cost screenings on a walk-in basis including total cholesterol for $7, a lipid profile for $20 and free blood pressure and weight screenings.
HealthFinders is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am – 8 pm. Call 843-839-9933.
